History
The Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) was formed in 1988, with an objective of providing a unified voice for several community art organizations. In 1998, the BAAC Gallery on Main was opened at 246 E Main Street to provide a venue for visual artists in the community. It was with great generosity that Barbara Fitzpatrick, owner of Heuer's Shoe Store, donated this former space for 15 years.
In 2014 BAAC completed the renovation of its new space at 226 E Main Street, which was formerly Heuer's Shoe Store. Thanks to the efforts of Senator David Wyatt and State Representative James McLean, BAAC was a recipient of state general improvement funds, which made the building purchase possible.
The Arts in Education program and the BAAC Gallery on Main are under the direct supervision of the BAAC Board of Directors. The Batesville Community Theatre, Batesville Symphony League, and North Arkansas Dance Theatre are autonomous organizations and have their own boards of directors.
