Marcus Vasquez

Face(t)s of Life

The Batesville Area Arts Council presented Face(t)s of Life, an exhibition by Marcus Vasquez, at the BAAC Gallery on Main, March 3 – April 18, 2020. This exhibition featured a series of portraits of inanimate objects, made with acrylic paint on cardboard. The cardboard is essential in creating a relationship with the subject matter, acting as more than just a painting surface. Vasquez says, “There is something special with how the subject matter and cardboard work together. Both could be considered mundane, but I think presented in this way, the ordinary becomes a little more extraordinary.”

Vasquez considers himself a painter but strives to experiment with different forms of creative outlets and learn how to use various mediums. He is inspired by personal experiences and likes to incorporate humor in his work where possible. Marcus was born and raised in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended school at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting in 2014. His artwork won the First Place award at BAAC’s 2019 National Juried Exhibition.

This exhibition is sponsored by Lifeplus International.
